If you have noticed a small, purple patch on your skin that is slowly enlarging, you may have a vascular tumor. Vascular tumors can range in size and are typically congenital. The following list includes some of the most common symptoms and signs of vascular tumors. Read on to learn more about them and how to recognize them.

Kaposiform hemangioendothelioma: Although rare, this type of vascular tumor usually manifests in early childhood. It is a firm, violaceous growth that may extend into bone. Most frequently, this type of tumor is found in the extremities. It may be accompanied by pain and thrombocytopenia. It may also appear as strands of subcutaneous fat.

Cavernomas: If left untreated, cavernomas can lead to debilitating symptoms. AVMs are rare but can cause bleeding into the brain and pulmonary system. Capillary telangiectasias: These are abnormally dilated capillaries. Cavernomas can develop anywhere in the brain, including the skull. DVAs: DVAs are unique radial vascular structures that are fully integrated with the body's venous system. This helps them carry blood to the proper location for normal function.

Hemangiomas: The most common type of vascular tumor in children is a hemangioma, a benign non-cancerous mass that develops in the skin. These tumors often develop shortly after birth. They are usually pinkish-red and can grow rapidly. In children, they may develop anywhere on the body, but they usually appear on the skin or in internal organs. However, hemangiomas can develop in any part of the body.

Other vascular tumors may cause similar symptoms, including headache, vision loss, and speech problems. They may also cause numbness and difficulty walking. High blood pressure may also cause the development of vascular tumors. These symptoms are not exclusive to brain tumors, however. Some people experience no symptoms at all or may experience them while others may experience more severe ones. In severe cases, they may even experience seizures.

While most lesions are localized, they are not uniform. Some are segmental, with two or more lesion clusters within a single area. Others are indeterminate. Lesions are classified according to depth, with superficial ones occurring in the epidermis while deep ones are under the skin. Deep lesions appear blue on gross examination. Some lesions are mixed, meaning that they are composed of both deep and superficial components. Retinal abortive minimal growth may present in patches.

Nodes that line blood vessels can grow too large and become complex. This extra growth will eventually form a mass. Some tumors grow back and forth and return to their original location. As a result, nodes will persist growing in size for a long time. Nodes may be palpable but they are not painful. The nodes will be irregular in texture and will often be "fuzzy" in shape. The patient may experience the Koenig symptom, which will appear when the patient is transferred from sitting to lying position.

While vascular tumors in the head and neck are typically benign, they may be associated with a number of signs and symptoms that may lead to further evaluation and treatment. The vascular lesions of the head and neck are classified as benign, locally aggressive, or malignant. They may be associated with various systems, including the lymphatic and skeletal muscles. Typically, a doctor can identify vascular tumors based on the physical examination and imaging-based prognostication.

Kaposi Sarcoma is another type of vascular tumor. Lesions are slow-growing and can be red, purple, or brown. They most often develop on the ankles or soles of the feet. The growths may spread to other parts of the body, blocking blood flow. It may lead to painful swelling and gastrointestinal bleeding. This is another sign of the tumor's spread. In most cases, the patient will not experience symptoms for several months.
