If you have had a spinal stroke, you need to know the symptoms and the treatment options for the disease. Fortunately, the prognosis for spinal stroke patients is very good. A stroke can leave you with permanent disability, but treatment options are available to minimize the effects on your life. However, the treatment options for spinal stroke are a little more complex than you might think. To understand how spinal stroke rehabilitation works, you need to know the causes, symptoms, and treatments for the disease.

The most important part of treatment for a spinal stroke is prompt diagnosis. In order to diagnose this condition, a medical expert will conduct a physical exam and ask you about your symptoms. Common signs include weakness in your legs or back ache. If you experience any of these symptoms, you should schedule an MRI, which will show the exact damage to the spinal cord. The MRI will also show where the blood vessel blockage is located. MRIs help your doctor plan a course of treatment.

The severity of spinal stroke is highly variable, but some characteristics correlate with risk factors such as younger age, male gender, and diabetes mellitus. Early detection of risk factors, such as hypertension, elevated blood glucose, or high blood pressure, is crucial in reducing the chances of a stroke. In about half of cases, spinal stroke is biphasic, meaning that it manifests in two distinct phases. One fifth of patients will experience a transient sensory deficit, and this condition should be treated as a stroke.

After a spinal stroke, you may experience difficulty walking, urinating, and sexual dysfunction. Your ability to move, sense, and move will depend on where the stroke has occurred. Your abilities will likely be affected by the location of the stroke, but some symptoms will show up sooner and later than others. If you have a spinal stroke, you should contact your doctor immediately, as the symptoms are similar to those of a physical injury to the spine.

If you experience any of these symptoms, you should seek medical treatment right away. It is important to note the time when you first started experiencing the symptoms because it is crucial to the treatment options. The location of the injury will determine how effective the treatment options are. However, the treatment for a stroke depends on the location of the injury. If the injury is in the brain, it is often difficult to treat. This is where treatment options are most helpful.

A spinal stroke is a devastating condition that requires immediate medical attention. The blood supply to the spinal cord is critical to its function. If the blood supply is cut off, the spinal cord will suffer damage from lack of nutrients and oxygen. This disrupts communication between the brain and the body. A severe spinal stroke can result in life-threatening paralysis. Even if the cause isn't the same as a cerebral stroke, it's important to see a doctor as soon as possible.

In a recent study of 32 patients with a spinal stroke, researchers found that 80% of cases were infarctions, despite the presence of three hemorrhages and one arteriovenous fistula. The vast majority of these strokes were spontaneous, and two were secondary to aortic aneurysms or a surgical procedure. Most spinal strokes are caused by ischemic strokes, which account for 86% of all cases. The other 9% are caused by a stroke that is associated with arteriosclerosis.

While most types of spinal stroke result from a clot, some can also be hemorrhagic, which means that the blood vessels have ruptured. These strokes are far less common than the other types of stroke, but they are still life-threatening. The symptoms of a spinal stroke vary according to where in the spinal cord the stroke has occurred, and how severe the damage is. If the stroke is serious, it can even kill you.

Luckily, Julie has continued her rehabilitation at a local rehab facility since her stroke. During outpatient therapy, she has gone from a power chair to a manual chair and from a walker to a hiking pole. Her progress has been slow, but she is slowly learning to walk again, with the help of a cane and leg braces. Thankfully, she's still active and continues to do volunteer work to help others.
